Greece Digital Nomad Visa Requirements

Income, document, and eligibility requirements for the Greece Type-Z digital nomad visa — checked against current migration ministry guidance.

The Greece Type-Z visa tests three things: that you earn enough to cover Greek costs, that your work is legitimately remote and foreign-earned, and that your paperwork is clean. The income bar is higher than Spain or Portugal; the documentation is moderate but Hague-apostille heavy; approval is routine for complete files.

Eligibility

  • Non-EU/EEA/Swiss national. EU citizens already have the right to work remotely from Greece.
  • Remote employment or self-employment with foreign entities. Greek-based employers or Greek clients are not permitted under this visa.
  • At least €3,500/month net income, documented over the prior three months.
  • Valid health insurance covering Greece for the duration of stay.
  • Clean criminal record in every country of residence for the past 5 years.

Income threshold

HouseholdMonthly income (2026)
Single applicant€3,500 net (consulates often require €4,000)
+ Spouse+ 20% → €4,200
+ Each child+ 15% → €525 per child

The Greek threshold is notably higher than Portugal's €3,480 or Spain's €2,762. This reflects Greek consular practice of aligning the threshold with typical professional salaries rather than the national minimum wage multiple. Applicants whose income dipped in any of the preceding three months typically fail — the review is strict about consistency.

Document checklist

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months, with 2 blank pages
  • Two passport-style photographs (EU-spec)
  • Completed national visa application (Type-D form)
  • Bank statements showing €3,500+ monthly income for the last 3 months
  • Employment contract from foreign employer or service agreements with foreign clients or business registration for self-employed applicants
  • Statement declaring your intention to work remotely and not provide services to Greek entities
  • Criminal record certificate from every country of residence in the past 5 years (apostilled)
  • Health insurance valid in Greece, €30,000+ coverage
  • Proof of accommodation in Greece (rental contract, property deed, or notarized hosting statement)
  • Tax ID (AFM) — can be obtained through a Greek tax representative
  • Application fee €75

Common rejection reasons

  • Income below €3,500 in any of the last 3 months. Strict enforcement.
  • Missing apostille on criminal record. Greek consulates reject without review.
  • Self-employment with fewer than 2 foreign clients. Single-client applicants sometimes fail the "legitimate remote business" test.
  • Short-term accommodation only. AirBnB reservations under 3 months are typically insufficient.
