The 2026 Digital Nomad Visa Index

One score for every digital nomad visa program we track, built from seven measured dimensions — income access, stay length, affordability, processing speed, internet speed, English access, and the residency-to-citizenship path. Same normalized data behind our country radar charts, ranked head to head.

Thailand tops the 2026 index at 63/100, ahead of Colombia (53) and United Arab Emirates (52). Scores are the equal-weight average of the seven measured dimensions below.

Each dimension is a normalized 0-100 score (100 = best in the current cohort). Lower-is-better dimensions — income floor, affordability, processing speed — are inverted before scoring, so a higher number is always better. A dash (—) means no verified data for that dimension; it is excluded from the country’s average rather than counted as zero.

Methodology

How the index is built

We score seven dimensions that materially change a nomad’s experience of a visa program. Each is pulled from the same cited country data layer that powers the individual country pages, then normalized min-max across the whole cohort so every country is measured on the same scale.

  • Income access · USD/moLower is better — inverted before scoring.
  • Stay length · yearsHigher is better.
  • Affordability · USD/moLower is better — inverted before scoring.
  • Processing speed · daysLower is better — inverted before scoring.
  • Internet speed · MbpsHigher is better.
  • English accessHigher is better.
  • Residency pathHigher is better.

A country’s overall index score is the plain average of its available dimension scores — no hidden weighting, no editorial thumb on the scale. Where a country lacks verified data for a dimension, that axis is dropped from its average instead of being imputed, so no score is inflated by a fabricated value.
