Indonesia E33G Remote Worker KITAS Requirements

Income, document, and eligibility requirements for the Indonesia E33G Remote Worker KITAS — what to prepare, including the local sponsor.

Indonesia's E33G Remote Worker KITAS is more involved than Thailand's DTV or Colombia's online nomad visa. The paperwork is moderate, but the local sponsor requirement is a distinguishing feature — you cannot apply without an Indonesian sponsor attached to your application.

Eligibility

  • Non-Indonesian national, aged 18+.
  • Employed by or contracted to a foreign (non-Indonesian) entity in a role that can be performed remotely.
  • Minimum annual income of $60,000 (or equivalent in any convertible currency), documented for the last 12 months.
  • Valid passport with at least 18 months remaining.
  • Indonesian sponsor — a registered visa agent, PT PMA, or established Indonesian company.
  • Health insurance covering Indonesia for the full KITAS duration.

Document checklist

  • Passport with 18+ months validity (scan of bio page)
  • Recent passport photograph (digital, 4×6 cm, white background)
  • Employment contract or service agreements with foreign clients (translated to English or Indonesian)
  • 12 months of bank statements showing qualifying income
  • Tax returns for the last fiscal year (home country)
  • Letter of intent describing remote-work activities in Indonesia
  • Indonesian health insurance policy (BPJS or private provider covering Indonesia)
  • Proof of accommodation in Indonesia (rental agreement or hotel booking for initial stay)
  • Indonesian sponsor's VITAS application support
  • Application fee and sponsor fee

The sponsor requirement

Unlike most nomad visas, Indonesia requires a local sponsor. Options:

  • Registered visa agent — the default for most nomads. Cost $500–900 for full-service handling; agent acts as sponsor and manages the paperwork. Popular agents: Emerhub, Bali Solo Visa, Cekindo.
  • PT PMA (foreign-owned Indonesian company) — if you own or work for one, it can sponsor. More common for long-term Indonesia-based entrepreneurs.
  • Indonesian company you're contracted with — possible but rare for genuine remote nomads (defeats the foreign-employer requirement).

Family application

Spouses, unmarried partners (with registered partnership evidence), and dependent children can apply as dependents under the main E33G application. Each dependent has a separate KITAS card issued. Dependents can also obtain school enrollment, driver's license, and BPJS health coverage.

Common reasons for rejection

  • Income below $60,000 in the last 12 months.
  • Missing or incomplete sponsor documentation.
  • Short passport validity (less than 18 months).
  • Prior Indonesian immigration issues — overstays or deportations.
  • Health insurance policy not covering Indonesia.
