Japan's process runs through the standard visa channel. The exact submission route depends on whether you have a Certificate of Eligibility and which embassy or consulate serves your residence.
- Confirm eligible nationality or region. Check the Immigration Services Agency material linked from MOFA.
- Choose COE or direct evidence route. A COE can simplify the consular application, but applicants without one submit income, activity, and insurance documents.
- Prepare income proof. Show annual income of ¥10 million or more through tax, employment, or contract documents.
- Buy qualifying insurance. The policy must clearly show medical treatment coverage of at least ¥10 million.
- File with the Japanese embassy or consulate. Submit the visa form, passport, photo, and supporting documents.
- Plan a non-extendable stay. Build the exit date into housing, insurance, and travel plans from the start.
