Sri Lanka's DNV documentation is heavier than a simple tourist-stay route: alongside income proof, the official checklist requires a police clearance, a medical clearance, international health insurance, and a recommendation letter from the Ministry of Digital Economy. Eligibility
- Foreign national, 18 or older (spouse and dependents may be included).
- Engaged in remote employment, freelancing, or owning a business that is not registered in Sri Lanka and serves clients outside Sri Lanka.
- No local employment. All income must be earned from foreign sources — this is a stated visa condition, not a guideline.
- Minimum monthly income remittance of USD 2,000 for the main applicant, plus USD 500/month for each dependent beyond two.

Document checklist
The official category document lists the following for all applicants:
- Duly filled visa application form
- Request letter from the applicant
- Photocopy of passport (valid for at least 6 months)
- Two recent passport-sized photographs
- Marriage certificate (for a spouse)
- Birth certificate (for dependents)
- Duly filled security clearance form
- Medical clearance report
- Recent police clearance certificate from your home country or country of residence (not older than 3 months)
- International health insurance that covers medical care in Sri Lanka
- Recommendation from the Ministry of Digital Economy
- Proof of the minimum monthly remittance for the main applicant and dependents
The Ministry of Digital Economy recommendation
The recommendation letter is the least self-service item on the list. Unlike income and insurance documents you can prepare independently, it involves a separate government ministry, so build extra lead time for it and confirm the current submission channel with the immigration department before assuming a timeline.
Family application
Spouse and dependents can be included with the main applicant. Each of them carries a USD 500/year visa fee (the same as the main applicant), and dependents beyond two add USD 500/month to the income-remittance requirement. Include marriage and birth certificates for the relevant family members.
